Submit a ReferralPaediatric OT for Children with Autism, ADHD, and Developmental Differences
Children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, and developmental delay often need support that goes beyond what school and family can provide alone.
Paediatric occupational therapy focuses on the real, everyday skills that help children participate in life at school and at home - from getting dressed in the morning to holding a pencil, managing sensory input, and building routines that work.
Your child might benefit from paediatric OT if they:
- Struggle with dressing, hygiene, or personal care tasks
- Have difficulty with pencil grip, handwriting, or fine motor activities at school
- Get overwhelmed by sounds, textures, crowds, or sensory environments
- Find it hard to sit still, focus, or follow classroom routines
- Melt down frequently around transitions or everyday changes
- Are behind their peers in self-care or daily living skills
- Avoid certain foods, textures, or activities due to sensory sensitivity
- Have a new NDIS plan with Capacity Building goals related to daily living

Sensory Integration Occupational Therapy for Children in the Riverland
Sensory integration is one of the most common reasons families seek paediatric OT.
Some children are overwhelmed by sensory input - they cover their ears, refuse certain textures, avoid crowds, or struggle to tolerate everyday school environments. Others seem to seek out intense sensory experiences and find it hard to settle.
Emma uses play-based sensory integration techniques to help children process sensory information more comfortably. Over time, this can lead to calmer mornings, easier school days, and a child who feels more at ease in their own environment.
Sessions happen at home and school, the exact environments where sensory challenges actually arise.

Frequently Asked Questions About Paediatric OT in the Riverland
How do I know if my child needs paediatric occupational therapy?
If your child struggles with self-care tasks, sensory sensitivities, fine motor skills, handwriting, toileting, or daily routines that other children their age manage more easily, an OT assessment is a good starting point. You don't need a diagnosis to start. Give us a call and describe what you're seeing and we can help you work out if OT is the right fit.
Does my child need a diagnosis to access paediatric OT?
Not necessarily. An NDIS plan is the main requirement for our services. Many children have NDIS funding based on developmental delay or functional needs rather than a formal diagnosis. A Functional Capacity Assessment from Emma can also support NDIS applications if you're just getting started.
Is paediatric OT covered by NDIS?
Yes. Paediatric OT is typically funded under Capacity Building, specifically Improved Daily Living. Allied Health Assistant sessions can extend your funding further between OT visits.
What's sensory integration occupational therapy?
Sensory integration therapy addresses how the brain processes sensory information. When a child is over- or under-responsive to sensory input, it affects their ability to engage with daily tasks, school, and social situations. Our OT uses specific play-based activities to help the brain process sensory information more effectively.
Can OT and counselling work together for my child?
Yes, and it's one of our key strengths. When a child needs both practical skills support and emotional regulation support, our OT and counselling team share strategies and coordinate their approach. You don't have to manage two separate providers who don't communicate.
